This Texas Hold em Poker Tips aim is to bring awareness to how you can use implied odds to win more money at the poker table. Implied odds are the odds you get on winning both the pot, and an implied amount of addition to the pot, which you estimate based on the hand. By not only calculating your pot odds and payoff risk for what the pot currently is, say before or after the flop, but by calculating the odds based on a larger amount which you expect to be added, through raises or calls, you can vastly increase the overall wealth of your stack.

Good players – the experts and professionals – are extremely competent at calculating implied odds. They try to get lucky on the flop or the turn by gambling in a calculated manner. They know that if they end up hitting their card, making their out (getting the best hand possible) and winning the pot they will most likely win a much bigger pot. They gamble on hands to try to catch open or closed straights, or some other type of draw like a flush because they believe that if they do hit their card, they’ll win the whole pot which will be much larger then the current. They are calculating based on the supposed pot size at the end of the hand, after the river.

You should be thinking about this aswell.

If you ever watch poker, sometimes you might think to yourself “Why is this guy betting so much on such a bad hand?”. It may look like a pure gamble but in fact the player has probably calculated some implied pot odds. Sure, there is a bit of luck, skill, call it an art, to guessing how much another player, or a few other players, might actually raise or add to the pot, but using estimations and rules of thumb this can be fine-tuned to be relatively accurate.

Another factor, which you should be a very good poker player to implement, to include in your calculation is the bluff factor. A player may call on the turn based on implied odds whilst including the idea that even if he doesn’t pull his card and make his straight/flush/whatever, he can still bet or bluff after the river and steal the pot from his opponent. Just because he hasn’t made his dream hand doesn’t mean he will automatically use. By using psychological tricks, applying pressure, betting big his opponent may not be able to justify a call and will fold. using implied odds to win pots is the essence of the Texas Hold em Poker tips advice. Use it wisely.

Many times you’ll pick up a nice A-K or K-Q in your pocket. Its a nice hand, one that you should raise with. So you up the pot four times the big blind because your playing good poker. Sure, some fold and some call, you may even get the aggressive opponent who reraises and you call that too. But then the flop comes out 10-8-6… You don’t know what to do. Your lost, a little bit afraid. You’ve already put so much in the pot and don’t want to lose that but you actually have nothing. You know you shouldn’t continue past the flop if you have nothing but still. Maybe you can pretend a bluff? Yeah! But you’re afraid to lose any money. Usually, 9 times out of 10, an average player will call in this situation. They want to stay in, but don’t want to raise.

Now your opponent immediately assumes you don’t have a big pair because you’ve just called. So what does he do? No matter what he has, he raises, pretending – or worse, actually having – a high pair because he knows that you, the original raiser, now calling, probably didn’t hit on the flop. And even though he may only have Q-J for example, pocket cards actually worse then yours, he will take the pot away from you if you check to him. A similar scenario would be when the less then desirable flop comes out, the opponent plays before you. You haven’t called like in the previous scenario, the opponent just raises flat out. So now you have to make the decision, do you call him and continue?

In either of these scenarios, that is, you get nice pocket cards, raise before the flop, then the flop comes out and is useless to you, the solution is to keep your cool and not get stubborn. Stick to the game plan, if you’ve got nothing at the flop, fold. Like I’ve said in my previous tips, if your hand isn’t nice and tight by the flop then fold em. You’ve gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em. You should just simply fold and give up the battle. You need to wait for a better opportunity to attack. Don’t go into a gun fight holding a knife.

So in Texas Hold em Poker, when you raise early but miss the flop by a long shot, don’t keep putting more chips in. Have the integrity with yourself to fold you cards and wait for a better hand when you do hit the flop and have a nice hand to work with. You can’t afford to be losing chips to weak hands because you just wanted to stay in because you had already put so many chips in already. Don’t fall for this trap, this is the trap amateurs fall into.

Let me start off by saying that there are (3) main types of Poker Chips available, Plastic, Clay and Ceramic.

Low end (dollar store) Plastic are the least expensive chips and can be found at most grocery stores or “dollar” stores. They are very low in weight and are made solely of cheap plastic. Needless to say, these type chips are not very durable and are not recommended.
ABS Plastic (high impact strength plastic) are made with a higher end ABS type plastic. Most of the time ABS Plastic Chips will be manufactured with a metal inlay, this adds to the weight and “real feel” of the chips. The use of this material allows for a more defined design than Clay Composite’s. They are very durable and will outlast most Clay Composite’s due to the strength of the ABS plastic. Plastic chips make a “ding” type sound when thrown into the “pot”.
NexGen Plastic: This specialized manufacturing process makes these chips feel very close to a Clay Composite Chip. NexGen Chips have a softer, duller surface and stack very well. Dollar for dollar you cannot beat the value of the NexGen line for longevity and durability.
Clay (clay composite): There are really no 100% clay chips, they are made of a Clay Composite. If they were 100% clay, they would crack and break constantly. If a chip is 5% Clay, the manufacturer can still say they are clay. With that said, there are many grades of Clay Composite’s and a wide price range. The best Clay Composite Chips are manufactured using “compression molding” instead of “injection molding”. An example of “compression molded” chips are Paulson, they are Casino Quality and are the best available chips for the home gaming market. Clay Composite chips make a “thud” type sound when thrown into the “pot”.
Ceramic: These type chips are not 100% ceramic, they are mixed with a polymer to give them added strength. A very important factor to remember about the ceramic chips is that the image is embedded below the surface of the chip and will never fade or peel off. Ceramic Chips have a textured surface and stack very well.

There are also a number of different chip weights (measured in grams). There is a misconception that chip weight is a direct reflection of the chip quality, this is totally untrue. Chip weight is only a matter of preference.

I hope this guide has helped you gain a better understanding of the various Poker Chip types that are available and will assist you in making a better decision when choosing your Poker Chips.

Lets face it, you’re probably going to lose at the final table, even if you do make it that far in a holdem tournament. I’m going to give a few Texas Holdem Poker Tips on how to succeed at the final table. Final table play is different to ‘normal’ play in some ways. The dynamics of the tournament change, essentially because its coming to an end. You no longer have to think about moving onto the next table, your there, that is it.

<b>The Reason Why You Will Lose At The Final Table</b>

Generally speaking, if you get to the final table and you have the shortest stack you don’t have a good chance of winning. You’ll probably come in around eighth, unless you get really lucky and continually pull great cards. Don’t rely on that happening. Of course there is the exception to the rule where you’ll see a short stack player take the prize but really, overall, you have less of a chance of winning if you start at the final table with a small stack. Usually it’s the players who started with the biggest stacks that get to duke it out for the gold. This means if you want to have the best chance of winning the tournament you need to be in a good position before you get to the final table.

<b>Final Table Texas Holdem Poker Tips</b>

You win at the final table with all the moves you make before you get there. Accumulating chips is vital if you want to actually win the Texas Holdem tournament. You need to get to the final table in good enough position to really be able to have a real chance at winning. For this reason it is imperative that when you get to the money tables you do not slack off your game. If anything you need to get even more serious. That is the time to attack, when you should be getting aggressive and ripping into everyone’s blinds and antes. When everyone else calms down and tightens up because they are preying they’ll get some money you should be getting excited and tearing it up.

<b>Don’t Wait For Aces And Kings</b>

Don’t sit back and wait for aces and kings to fall into your hand. This Texas Holdem Poker Tips all about attacking, chopping out pots and stealing blinds, with whatever you can make work. Often you’ll find you’ll be playing some weak hand but you’ll flop a big duke (the winning hand) and win a big pot. There is something to be said for the element of surprise. Even though you are raising with nothing sometimes you might find you end up making decent hand and winning the pot ‘fair and square.’

Texas Hold Em Poker is so complex. There are so many facets to the game you need to incorporate and play together to be successful. First I think it is important to make a few clarifications, which time and time again get people confused.

Aggressive: This is a descriptive word for a players betting style. It specifically relates to how to player bets. Aggressive players always raise and will often further re-raise a bet/re-raise. Aggressive players don’t often check or call. Aggressive players that always raise heavy on practically every hand are called a loose cannon. I’ll explain what loose means down below.

Passive: Another descriptive word for a players betting, again only relating to how the player bets. Passive players don’t often raise. They prefer to check or call. They will call another players raise but don’t often re-raise. A passive player that continually calls is called a calling-station. Passive players are more often then not very tight.

Next I want to clarify the following point. Tight and loose; these words essentially describe the types of cards or hands a player will actually bother playing.

Tight players only play the best hands, like good pocket pairs or premium cards (A,K,Q). They much prefer suited cards or high connectors as well. Tight players will fold if they don’t have extremely good cards. You can tell a tight player because they don’t often go to the flop. Another way to tell is to watch when they do go to the flop and if the flop isn’t full of highcards then you will usually see them fold.

Loose players on the other hand will play much worse cards. They are more likely to play middle cards, like middle pairs and middle suited connectors. They may even play lower pairs or complete dunce cards, depending on how loose they get and if they are incorporating a bluff or other strategy. You can tell a loose player because he is constantly playing pots. Seriously, no one can really get great cards every single hand unless they are on some kind of outta-this-world lucky streak, which usually doesn’t happen. The way they can play most hands is because they are playing when they have plain cards. This is an effective strategy because if the flop comes and its mostly low cards, all the people who only played with premium cards have nothing, but the loose player who has the low/middle cards suddenly has a two pair or trips etc.

The ability to understand other players is imperative for a good grounding when you are trying to learn Texas Hold em Poker. Just understanding the types isn’t good enough, you need to be able to watch people and pin them on a type and style. When you can do this you will be able to play better poker.

The easiest way to play extremely aggressive No Limit Texas Holdem Poker is to always bet 5 times the big blind. Never ever check, never ever call, never raise the minimum amount or any other amount, just always bet 5 times the big blind. Your decision is very easy: fold or bet 5 times the big blind. This is super aggressive No limit Texas Holdem Poker.

<b>But Before You Can Play Super Aggressive…</b>

You better have decent cards. Playing extremely aggressive but playing very loose as well is a recipe for disaster. If you are deciding to play very aggressive you need to tighten up your game. You need to stick to good poker principles:

- Play the odds, the numbers
- Choose your starting hands carefully
- Don’t play post flop if you don’t have a good hand
- Calculate your odds and outs
- Pay attention to your opponents, their cards, styles of play etc
- Don’t get too loose

<b> How To Play Super Aggressive And Loose At The Same Time</b>

There is only one safe way to do this. First you play tight. Play good strong poker with good hole cards and play through the river with a good hand. After you have done this a couple of times you can start to loosen up <i>slowly</i>. Sneak pairs lower and lower down to middle pairs. Play high suited cards, then middle suited cards. Slowly lower the quality of the hands you play. By first playing extremely tight you will set a precedence. By continuing to always bet 5 times the big blind the other players will be scared to challenge you.

No Limit Texas Holdem Poker extremely easy once you know how to play super aggressive but you have to make sure that you do it correctly. Playing too aggressive can sometimes get you into trouble if you play too loose. Being able to handle the heat and keep your composure during massive pots is critical if you are ever going to succeed in playing super aggressive No Limit Texas Holdem Poker.

The different Texas Hold Em Poker hands are exactly the same as normal poker hands. If you don’t know these don’t worry because I am going to explain them all. There are ten different hands that you can have. In order from worst to best, they are: low, 1 pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind, straight, flush, full house, 4 of a kind, straight flush and royal flush. I will explain each of these in detail. The person with the highest hand wins.

When people talk about cards in text they will type the number of the card, and also a letter denoting the suit. H=hearts, D=diamonds, S=spades, C=clubs. Jack is J, Queen is Q, King is K and Ace is A. So for example a nine of clubs is 9C and a queen of hearts is QH. Some people put a hyphen ‘-’ in between, some not. For multiple cards in a hand some people will just use a space i.e. 7D 8D 9D 10D JD or some people will use a hyphen i.e. 7D-8D-9D-10D-JD. Sometimes people wont put anything and this is usually hard to read. It takes a little getting used to but you should be able to decode most peoples explanations with little effort.

Now for all of the Texas Hold Em Poker Hands:

Low: This hand is very bad. A low hand is essentially nothing. You have no good hands. An example would be 7D-5S-4C-3C-2H. Its nothing. Although for the most part this hand is very bad, if two people have a low hand the person with the single highest card wins.

1 Pair: This is the first hand you will usually make. A pair is having a single pair of a type of card. The number must match and obviously the suit won’t be able to. An example would be 2H-6H-10C-JC-JS. So in this example the player has a pair of jacks. When two more more players have a pair the person with the highest pair will win.

2 Pair: This is a fairly good hand you can usually get quite easily. 2 pair is just like have a pair two times. An example would be AC-7H-7D-QC-QH. So in this example the player has a pair of 7’s and a pair of Queen’s. When two players both have 2 pair the player with the single highest pair out of all of them wins. It doesn’t matter if his second pair is lower then the other players.

3 of a kind: This is a good hand that you can make quite easily if you start with a pair in the hole. This hand is simply having three cards all of the same, like JH-5S-8C-8S-8D. This player has three 8’s so has 3 of a kind. If multiple players have 3 of a kind the player with the highest wins.

Straight: Here we deviate from the standard number matching. A straight is any five consecutively numbered cards. It doesn’t matter what suit just the numbers must be consecutive. For example 7D-8H-9S-10C-JH. If more then one player has a straight the player with the highest overall card at the end of the straight wins. An Ace can be used as either a low ace, like 12345, or a high ace, like 10JQKA. It cannot be used in the middle. QKA23 is not a valid hand and would be considered a low hand.

Flush: A flush is simply any five cards with the same suit. It doesn’t matter the number of the cards they just all have to be the same suit. An example would be AS-2S-6S-JS-9S. See how they are all spades? That is a flush. If two or more players both have a flush the person with the highest overall card will win. So having just one Ace, King or Queen in your flush tends to pay off.

Full House: A full house is a 3 of a kind plus a pair. An example is KD-KH-3S-3C-3D. See the 3 of a kind of three’s and the pair of king’s. This hand is very good but harder to get. The more important numbered card is the one in the 3 of a kind. If there is a showdown the player with the higher number in their 3 of a kind will win.

4 of a kind: As the name suggests, this hand is having 4 of the same kind of card. Like QC-QD-QH-QS-10C. Four queens makes 4 of a kind. Like with all the other hands, if two players have a four of a kind the player with the highest numbered card in their 4 of a kind will win.

Straight Flush: This hand is extremely hard to get and is a combination of the straight and the flush. So the numbers of the cards must be consecutive and all the suits must be the same. James Bond wins with a straight flush in Casino Royal. An example is 4S-5S-6S-7S-8S. Consecutive numbers plus all spades. If more then one player has a straight flush the player with the highest numbered card on the end of their’s will win.

Royal Flush: This is just a straight flush but at the top end. Its essentially the highest straight flush you can get. Its the ultimate: 10H-JH-QH-KH-AH. Nothing beats this hand. This is the best hand you can get.

Still with me?

So I have explained all of the different Texas Hold Em Poker hands that you can get. I put them in order from worst to best. Of course, each better one beats any one under it. So a 3 of a kind beats a pair automatically, and a flush beats that easily. Take the time to read through them again to remember them better. Its worth memorizing these so you immediately know who has won a poker hand, without having to refer to anything. Always remember, when two people have the same hand the winner is the person with the highest overall card making that hand.

Whenever you are playing Texas Hold Em Poker the hands you play can often depict whether you are one round away from being a massive winner or one round away from losing absolutely everything because in No Limit Texas Hold Em Poker, all your chips are at risk every single time you play a hand. The only exception to this is if your opponent has less chips then you of course.

In ever poker game you play your goal is to win the most chips possible. Your secondary goal is to lose the least amount of chips possible. You need to remember these goals when you are playing. You should always play good starting hands if you can. Since you usually aren’t dealt very good starting hands that often you should probably be folding most of the hands you get before seeing the flop. Generally speaking, the hands you want to stay in for are pockets of high pairs; so aces, kings and queens, or two premium cards like ace-king or king-queen, suited or unsuited. Depending on your position at the table you may be able to play a few different other hands.

The hands you can play and which ones you can’t will be greatly affected by your position in the betting sequence for that round. You will need progressively better hands the closer you get to the big blind. So in last position you will be able to get away with a much worse starting hand then if you were under the gun.

With all other things being equal, if you are in first or second position you only ever want to play exceptionally great hands, like a premium pair. If you are in one of the middle positions you can probably play any good pair and or two high cards headed by an ace or a king. When you are sitting on the button you can play practically any pair and also suited connectors. Remember though, you must be very careful and particular about what hands you play when you are the small or big blind.

So when you are playing any of the Texas Hold Em Poker hands you need to remember your primary goal. You are trying to win the most chips possible. Keep in mind your secondary goal; to lose the least chips possible. If you are playing very weak hands you may not be able to reach these goals. Generally you want to be playing only good starting hands. If you are on the button you can play slightly weaker hands and get away with it. The fact of the matter is, you just have to fold alot of cards waiting for the good hands.

Texas Hold Em Poker takes a few minutes to learn but a lifetime to master. I’m going to go a tad further then the rules and explain the mechanics of the game.

The game begins when the deal deals two cards face down to each player at the table. These are called down cards or hole cards or pocket cards. No one else can see your cards and you don’t know anyone else’s cards on the table. The cards are delivered in a clockwise fashion around the table. There is a button, which is like a little disc, which is the dealer button. The cards are dealt starting at the first person left of the button. Each hand the button moves one player around, rotating slowly.

The first person to the left of the button, the one that gets the cards dealt to them first, is the small blind. The next player left of him is called the big blind. Both of these players must put a mandatory amount of chips in to the pot to play. Because they are forced to bet before the get cards they are ‘betting blind’. The blinds stimulate action by growing the pot the players will compete for. The big blind puts in a ‘full’ bet (whatever the minimum bet is set at) and the small blind is always half of that. Eg, the BB is $200 and the SB is $100.

Each player can do one of three things when its their turn. They can call, which is posting the amount of the big blind to play, they can raise, which is posting the amount of the big blind plus extra, or they can fold, which is throw away their cards and not play that hand anymore. If you want to raise you must bet an amount that is at least twice the size of the last raise. So if you are the first to raise it must be twice the size of the big blind. If someone raises in front of you and you want to raise him, you must at least double the amount of chips your opponent has bet. Remember in No Limit Texas Hold Em Poker there is no limit to the maximum amount you can bet. At any time you or your opponent can go all-in. All in is raising with all of your chips and is proves to be a very strong play. There’s a famous saying that goes something like ‘Players that go all in will win every time bar once’. Be careful because once your out of chips your out of the game.

After everyone has made their play, called, raised or folded, all the bets go into the middle pot and the dealer will deal the flop. The dealer will burn the first face down card of the deck which means he throws it away not to be used (its always face down so no one gets to see it). He then will turn over three cards and put them in the middle. This is the flop. These cards are the community cards and everyone gets to use them. Now, another round of betting occurs. After the flop a player has the opportunity to check if no one has bet anything in front of him. Checking is essentially not betting and not folding. You get to stay in without betting. The other choices a player has is to bet or to fold. If you bet, again, you must bet a minimum of the big blind. So after all the players have made their move, some betting and possibly other players betting more etc the dealer will pile all the chips into the pot again.

The dealer then deals one more face up card, called the turn. The turn is another community card so everyone gets to use it. Now the players have six cards (their two hole cards and the four on the board) to make their best five card hand. Another round of betting happens, again where players can check, bet, call or bet more, or fold. After the conclusion of that betting round the dealer will pile all the chips into the pot and deal one more face up card. The last community card is the river. The After the river there are the five community cards for everyone to use and each player has their own two hole cards. Here each player knows their best hand and there isn’t any wiggle room. A final round of betting will occur. Here players can check, bet, call or bet or fold, just like in the others.

After the final round of betting after the river, all the chips are piled up into the middle and there is a showdown. You and your opponents show your hole cards face up in front of you. The player who initiated the final betting round is obligated to show his or hand first. If everyone check then the player to the left of the dealer shows his cards first. The dealer then pushes the pot to the best five-card combination. Its that simple.

I hope you have been able to learn Texas Hold Em Poker from the brief explanation I have provided. These points are the crux of how the game is played. I have not gone into detail about the different hands, like what a pair, full house or flush is. You will need to learn these though if you are ever going to win Texas Hold Em Poker. You need to know which cards beat what if you are ever going to win. I hope you enjoyed this article and have heaps of fun playing this fabulous card game!

In Texas hold em poker, the way an opponents is playing tips you off to their style of play. Style of play is described as the method in which the individual plays when they do in fact play at a pot. This is characterized, for the most part, by the way they bet. Betting is generally the biggest factor of player control that can have an outcome on the game for any given hand.

The style of play specifically refers to how the person bets. To determine their style of play you need to carefully observe their betting patterns. Here’s some questions to start you going…

- Does this person bet alot of hands?

- When this person comes into a pot, do they more often raise then call?

- Do they ever reraise the pot?

- Have you noticed they reraise to isolate themselves against another particular opponent?

- Do they often raise and reraise when they show down at the river?

- Have you noticed they tend to raise when playing middle suit connectors and mid or small pairs?

- Do they raise large amounts from their pocket cards?

I have worded these questions specially so that the more you answer yes that means the person is aggressive and the more you answer no the person is passive.

There are a couple of flavours to aggressive players. Tight aggressive players only ever play great cards like pocket pairs or cards above Jacks. When they bet they raise and reraise. Generally they raise alot because they have such good cards however sometimes they will raise just normally but intend on reraising on the flop and reraising the turn, more and more as time goes on. These players are nasty to play against and you can lose alot of chips very quickly if you aren’t careful. New Texas Hold Em Poker players usually have difficulty against this type of opponent.

Loose aggressive means the person plays almost any hand and also is constantly raising and reraising. This type of player is even harder to play against because you don’t have the benefit of ‘knowing’ he has good cards. This player could have anything and is still raising you. If you don’t ever play against this type of opponent he will constantly eat everyone’s blinds, grow his stack and become even more powerful. This player will often raise when he has worse cards to scare everyone off, and raise less on good cards to trick people into dualing him.
